After our successful talent scouting expeditions to Bohemia and the city of Prague - or, as you’ll probably recall them better, Vojtech and Calvin! - we decided to move on further east and, with a couple of Bulgarian boys already on the site, decided on Sofia as our destination.

 

From Ruzyne International Airport we caught a surprisingly comfortable Bulgaria Air flight and, on arrival, met up with prospective HMBoys (and real-life boyfriends) Alex and Vitas.

 

Sadly, even though the country finally joined the European Union a few months ago, the Bulgarian economy still isn’t up to the levels of most of the rest of Europe.

 

As a result, while both Alex and Vitas have jobs, they still have to live at home with their folks and so didn’t have anywhere suitable to offer us for their shoot.

 

They did, though, make a great suggestion – that we head off with them for the Black Sea coast for the weekend and get our material in the bag there.

 

I guess that, just because of its name, we weren’t really expecting much of the Black Sea, but it turned out, as you’ll see in the pictures, to be anything but black. (In fact, Vitas – the brighter boy of the two – told us that on the face of the earliest magnetic compasses the north direction was always coloured black, and so, when explorers who came from Greece and Rome called it the Black Sea, they just meant “the sea to the north”.)

 

The boys like to get away for summer weekends on the beach as often as they can. So they knew one or two stretches of sand where they were quite certain that we wouldn’t be disturbed.

 

And that was just as well as they moved easily and unselfconsciously from passionate kissing to sucking and even fucking right out there in the open.

 

“Even though gay sex has been legal here since the 1960s, there isn’t much organised gay life outside of Sofia and Varna”, says Vitas.

 

“But with lots of western Europeans buying up property here on the Black Sea coast nowadays, I don’t think it’ll be too long before the Bulgarian gay scene really takes off”, says Vitas.

 

And we’re just as certain that, if the Bulgarian Department of Tourism wants to pull in the pink dollars, all they need to do is put home-grown cuties Alex and Vitas on their posters.
